Look, I said that I was not going to write any more articles about Halle Berry and her relationships. In my opinion, she has gotten a bad rap and being in the public eye has caused us to scrutinize her life way more than we should. In this society, we tend to believe that women are to blame for failed relationships.
But are they?
I had high hopes for her relationship with Olivier Martinez and knew that she had finally found happiness. Unfortunately, that happiness did not last long and she is now in the process of divorcing him as I write this.
Most recently, however, she sat down with fellow actor Dondre Whitfield, at the annual Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB) Conference, and stated that the reason for her failed relationships was due to the fact that she kept choosing “boys, not men”.
Now, why did she go and say such a thing?
Since she made those comments, everyone and their momma got their panties in a bunch and really went on a bashing spree against her.
Their complaints have been how she’s the common denominator for her failed relationships and how she’s putting all of the blame on the men she’s dated.
Because of course, they were all innocent victims caught up in Halle Berry’s vicious web.
It seemed to me that everyone was upset because they thought she wasn’t taking the blame for falling in love with flawed men.
I disagree and based on her exact quote, I explain why…
…”I looked at the part that I played and looked at the part the men I had married played. I had chosen boys”.
Though she probably should have used different words, she understands very well that she’s the common denominator and that she’s the one picking the same type of men.
I love Halle and I don’t believe she needs judgemental folks casting stones at her. Marriages take two people to work and both are responsible for making it work. It’s unfair to place the entire weight of failed marriages on her shoulders.
We don’t know what happened in her most recent relationship, but based on the way he beat her baby daddy, I wouldn’t be shocked if it had something to his inability to control his temper.
As much as ya’ll blame Halle for her failed relationships, I also put blame on the men who beat her, the husbands who cheated on her, and the man who hit a major payday hooking up with a Ms. Halle Berry.
Some of you will get mad, but oh well. Stop acting like she’s damaged goods and that she’s the blame for her failed relationships… as if it doesn’t take two to tango. Yes, she may have picked men who did not meet her expectations, but these men were not unwilling participants.
…as if it doesn’t take two to tango. Yes, she may have picked men who did not meet her expectations, but these men were not unwilling participants.
Yes, she may have picked men who did not meet her expectations, but trust me, these men were not unwilling participants.
As much as my heart breaks for Halle’s failed relationships, I also feel a little better about my own. If Halle was that bad of a woman, why did they get in relationships with her in the first place and more importantly…why did they stay?
I mean if a woman who looks better on her worst day than I ever looked on my best, can have men problems. I know there is still hope for me yet.If Halle was that bad of a woman, why did they get in relationships with her in the first place and more importantly…why did they stay?
If you’re someone who has only dated and married one person in your entire life, then this isn’t for you. In fact, you can probably stop reading right now.
